BCST is a gentle, hands on therapy that relieves tension within the structures and tissues surrounding the central nervous system promoting whole body health and proper function. Many symptoms that bring people to Craniosacral Therapy are related to difficulties in nervous system regulation. The primary benefit of BCST is supporting this physiological balance.
Everyday our body endures stressors that it constantly seeks to balance out; however sometimes our tissues tighten under the strain or our physiology gets stuck in repeating stress responses. Our body can even hold tension or physiological patterns from previous experiences as far back in our history as birth! BCST helps to ease the environment around the central nervous system, supporting its natural rhythm and ability for self repair.
Biodynamic means LIFE-MOVEMENT. In the Biodynamic approach to CST we are interested in how the organizing forces of Life are expressed in the tissues, fluids and energetic fields of the body.
These subtle movements can be palpated by trained, sensitive hands that deeply listen to the whole of the being they are in contact with. This unique type of touch is light and reverential, without any force or manipulation. Instead touch is combined with the calm, embodied presence of the therapist.
This combination creates a sense of safety that allows a body to reveal the patterns and experiences it is holding and find resolution. By helping clients reestablish their own balanced rhythm, the regenerative powers of the body are able to make intrinsic internal adjustments. Healing comes from within rather than from an outside source!
BCST is a gentle therapy appropriate for a wide variety of clients including pre- and postnatal women, newborns, young children, adults and the elderly. Clients seek treatment for many different symptoms including pain, fatigue, stress and related difficulties. Clients are also interested in improving their overall physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
BCST Craniosacral Therapy is a therapy that focuses on the health in your system and facilitating the body to self repair. As the primary orientation is toward the client’s inherent health, deep and lasting transformation can occur. A foundation of BCST is that health is always present no matter the ailment. If the focus has been on illness, trauma or pain, a connection with a sense of health can be lost. BCST can help you reconnect to the health and vitality within.
After a series of treatments many practice members may notice an improvement in their symptoms such as:
-A reduction in pain
-Improved sleep and digestion
-Feeling calmer and more relaxed
-Coping better with stressful situations
-Improved body awareness and function
-Feeling more connected and aware
-A renewed sense of direction and purpose
-Greater vitality and sense of wellbeing

During your first session the therapist will go over what Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is, what your health goals are and how BCST can help you. The hands on treatment part of the session typically last an hour, although it can vary based on your body’s priorities. You remain fully clothed and will usually lie face up or on your side on a massage table or you may be seated. Finding a comfortable position for you is important and the practitioner will have props to support the body.
The practitioner will make light contact with your body with their hands and NO physical adjustment is applied to the body; instead the hands on treatment focuses on holding the body in a slow, gentle way that relieves tension within the structures and tissues surrounding the central nervous system. The therapist will move to hold areas that are prioritized by your system, and as the body functions as a whole, the practitioner may focus on areas other than where your symptoms occur.
After a session there can be a period of adjustment where some practice members report an increase in awareness of their symptoms. Often this subsides, however sometimes another session is required sooner then planed to assist the therapeutic process. It is important to remember that BCST is a facilitation of the body's self repair mechanism; the hands-on session is to support your system to access information and resources to make deep, intrinsic reorganizations. The greatest strength of BCST is it’s orientation to Health. “There is an understanding in the field that the underlying health of the human system is a principle that is with us from the moment of conception, is never lost, and always at work. In this understanding, the potential for healing, and the knowledge of what needs to occur, is already enfolded within the conditions and suffering present” - R E Becker
Some practice members report relief after 1-3 sessions. For long-standing issues, further sessions may be required to assist the body in a holistic movement towards greater health. In BCST it is your body’s inner wisdom that guides the therapeutic process. This intrinsic intelligence determines the priorities, sequencing and timing of what has to happen for healing. This is called the Inherent Treatment Plan. The therapist will always keep you informed about what your body is revealing and may give you homework to support your process.
Angela believes that we are magnificent beings meant to live a life of deep feeling and connection. The foundational principles of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy inspire her on many levels, both personally and professionally.
When diagnosed with cancer in 2013 she knew that she could trust the intelligence of her body to guide her through the choices she would have to make in order to heal. Most importantly, she knew that she could focus on healing her body vs fighting to survive.
Angela completed her BSCT training with Body Intelligence in 2017 and she recently joined the Body Intelligence teaching team as an assistant. Her favourite part of the practice is deeply listening to another being on all levels and supporting them to connect to the Health in their system, no matter the ailment. She is constantly inspired by the power of nervous system regulation and trauma resolution to support healing and wellness.
Angela is very excited to be part of the Ponoka and Central Alberta community and is looking forward to serving you and your entire family through BCST!
